Introducing Graduate Attributes and Values at UCC

What does this mean for you, our incoming students?

The term “graduate attributes” refers to the skills, knowledge and abilities of our students and graduates, beyond what you learn in your academic programme.  Our Graduate Attributes Programme will advance the development of your academic, specialist and technical competencies, but also equip you with transferable skills that can be applied in different environments throughout your life.  These types of transversal, transferable skills and attributes are typically what most employers look for when you graduate. 

As a UCC graduate you will be recognised as a well-rounded, curious, self-aware individual, who can continually learn new skills, are open to new ideas, and make things happen.

The university is here to support you in every way from pre-entry to the moment you arrive at our campus, right through your studies, and as you graduate and enter the world of work or future studies.  This is facilitated through a Transitions In, Transitions Through and Transitions Out programme of activities.

We are committed to embedding and developing these attributes into the fabric and DNA of the entire university, reflecting them in all of our academic programmes. Some of these attributes relate to knowledge and understanding you gain while studying, but also beyond that, in your co-curricular and extra-curricular activities, your volunteering, your sporting pursuits, and your work within societies in UCC, and beyond

Below we will  introduce you to the unique Graduate Attributes Programme at UCC. We will begin by outlining the five graduate attributes and five values which every student will develop while they transition in, through and out of the university and provide you with reflection prompts so that you can engage with your graduate attributes and values. We look forward to working with you throughout your time in the university as we develop this exciting programme.
